Sharpening Service

When the time comes for your scissors to be resharpened, you should only rely on an ARC Scissors certified sharpener.

Each scissor manufacturer has a specific sharpening method based on the angle of their blades, and ARC Scissors is no different. Only factory-authorized sharpeners know the degree of angle to sharpen to, removing as minimal steel as possible.

Be very careful about who services your ARC Scissors as there are many sharpeners who have not learned to sharpen the proper way.

WHEN SHOULD YOU HAVE YOUR SCISSORS RESHARPENED?

Many sharpeners will tell you to that your blade needs to be refinished every 6 to 12 months in order to keep them sharp all of the time. This is not true. You cannot put a time on when your scissors need to be resharpened. If you properly maintain your scissors, keeping them oiled and with the correct tension, your scissors can stay sharp for a much longer time. It's not uncommon for hairdressers to go 1, 2 or even 3 years without resharpening their scissors.

The correct time to have your scissor sharpened is right before the tension becomes so hard that your thumb gets "strained" when tightening. As explained above, you should always keep the proper tension in your scissors. The tension will become looser and looser over time and as a result, you will need to adjust to a tighter tension as time goes on. There will come a point in time when the tension is becoming too hard in order for the scissor to cut. This is happening because the edge is getting dull. At that time you should have your scissor sharpened.

If your scissor has a nick it, we recommend sharpening right away.
