1. Bombshell Layers

If your client requests “It Girl” hair—this is it. Bombshell layers (also known as the viral butterfly cut on the internet) create that ’90s supermodel effect. To achieve this look, you’ll need to brush up on your face-framing layering techniques to accentuate your client’s features, build volume and seamlessly blend layers into the overall cut without losing too much length.

3. Fringe Fever: The Trends You Should Know

We’ll let you in on a little secret from our trend radar: 2023 will be the official year of THE FRINGE—in all different shapes and sizes. For winter, we’re seeing an influx of Netflix’s “Wednesday”-inspired fringe, curtain bangs, piecey texture and eye-sweeping lengths.

Line One Hair founder @andreahenty creates her signature contour cuts with long, wispy fringe using ARC™️ Scissors Paragon II 6”:

4. Midlength Lob

A long, luxe lob is on your client’s request list this season. The secret? Creating soft, blunt lines with movement. “Think of cutting your line with the ARC™ Scissors 10/10 Reversible Texturizer is like sketching with a pencil,” @chrisjones_hair explains. “It’s very forgiving, since you can see what you’re cutting as you go and really sculpt the haircut visually.”

5. Bottleneck Bob

The “bottleneck bob” trend is known for its signature pinched fringe and shape that resembles a retro Coca Cola bottle. Also coined the “mushroom bob,” its different variations look great paired with blunt, chopped ends or can be easily adjusted into a softer, longer lob.

10. Contour Cuts

Just like makeup, haircuts can drastically contour the shape of your client’s face and décolletage. The biggest difference between contour cuts and long layers is density and tailored length.

Contour cutting is typically striking because it is not always supermodel-esque layers. Stylists are moving into the space of acknowledging one long layered cut cannot suit every client. Adjusting different lengths, density and working with texture creates a custom haircut to your client’s features that may not be on a standard head diagram.
